Porta Galliera

Bologna’s historic center is ringed with a periphery of medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque gates that mark the former walled boundary of the city. The Porta Galliera, built in the seventeenth century, now stands in the middle of a large urban square. Bologna is one of Italy’s largest cities, and is home to one of the world’s oldest universities, the University of Bologna.
